The Al Minns Next Generation Project

The Next Generation Project (NGP) was created to nurture and train young Black American dancers in the art of authentic Lindy Hop and vernacular Jazz. NGP strives to provide opportunities, resources, and mentorship to empower the next generation to carry forward these culturally significant dance forms. Your contribution can make a difference in a young dancer’s life—please donate now to support our mission to foster talent and celebrate Black American art forms.

If Dance Camps and Festivals were the only option to learn Lindy, we would have lost the genius of the creators of this great art form. Black elders often lamented that black dancers weren’t interested in learning Lindy. But in truth, it wasn’t a lack of interest – it was a lack of access.

The Next Generation’s Project is  our commitment to respond to the dream that a new generation of American black dancers, well-schooled in the art and its history, will emerge. NGP aims to strengthen and train in accurate Lindy dance technique, surround project participants with American and international mentors, and inspire participants to accept responsibility for learning and transmitting the true history and technique of Lindy Hop and Vernacular Jazz.

Participants will be connected to master dance teachers you may have heard of but never had the opportunity to meet. And their expertise transcends dance. Participants will have history classes, how to negotiate contract classes, how to build this movement in their respective communities, and dance technique, technique, and technique, all culminating in a performance before the whole camp on Friday night.
